Until further notice, we’re protecting the identities of the queer people who participated in The Identity Project by removing their portraits from public view.
I created this project to explore the labels we choose when defining our gender and sexuality. Under this administration, I’m reconsidering what it means to make those identities publicly accessible and my responsibility as the photographer who holds this archive.
The portraits have been archived on Instagram. The work continues, with care for the people in these photographs guiding what happens next.
I’ll be sharing what happens next on my Substack: the stories behind this project, the questions I’m working through as a queer photographer, and the process of turning this archive into a book.
Subscribe to follow along as I reconnect with participants, revisit the photographs, and figure out what their next chapter can look like.
We made queer history together. I want to take care of it.
